Epic’s own AI

For several tasks on this page the correct answer is to switch on what you already license. Epic's native AI is broad, included in your existing agreement, and embedded where clinicians already work. Third parties earn their place on specialty depth, ambient capture quality, and coding autonomy — differences that are real but narrower than vendor marketing implies. The question to ask internally is not "which scribe is best" but "is the gap between Epic's own tool and the best third party worth a separate contract, a separate security review, and a separate integration to maintain".

Questions to put in the RFP

  • Which Showroom tier do you hold? Put it in writing.
  • What is our site's configured rate limit for your integration?
  • Which Epic objects can you write to, and which are read-only for you?
  • What happens to the integration at our next Epic upgrade, and who pays for the rework?

What breaks implementations

  • Rate limits are configured individually by each health system and are not published.
  • A Connection Hub listing costs roughly $500 a year and carries no endorsement, but reads to a buyer like a credential.
  • Epic's own AI and Toolbox-tier partners get embedding privileges inside the clinician workflow that other vendors cannot match at any product quality.
